What is the Boone County Education Foundation (BCEF)?

BCEF is a 501c3 non-profit, 100% volunteer organization that raises money so that children attending school in the Boone County school system have additional opportunities by way of learning experiences they would otherwise get. Our district employs a lot of great teachers with a lot of great ideas. From outdoor classrooms and hydroponic gardens to robotics and coding projects, our teachers come up with forward thinking ideas geared increase the chances that our children are successful. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough funding to back all of these projects.

That’s where we come in! We fund these specific classroom-based projects via a grant process (mini-grants) that allows teachers to apply for funds. We judge projects based on a pre-defined judging rubric which focuses on supporting the Districts strategic plan, sustainability, reach, implementation maturity and measurability. Click here to see a few of the cool projects we’ve funded over the past few years.

What BCEF is NOT.

We are NOT the Boone County Board of Education.
We do NOT set District policy.
We do NOT make rules that schools have to follow.

How often and where does BCEF meet?

BCEF meets for 1 hour, once a month on the 1st Thursday of every month. However we typically take off the months of June and July. We meet at the Boone County Schools district office on US 42 in Florence (in from of Ockerman Elementary).

What is the time commitment?

The time commitment is totally up to you and can be as little or as much as you’d like. You’ll have the opportunity to take part and contribute to our foundation in the following ways:
– Assist with the mini-grants process
– Marketing
– Fundraising
– Event coordination and management
* Night at the Races
* Annual Holiday Bourbon Raffle
– Finance/Accounting
– Web design and digital artistry
– Social Media
– Technology
– Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary)
– Bring your own talent!  We’re always looking for unique talents to strengthen our board!

How do you raise funds?

We currently raise funds via two main fundraising events: Night at the Races and our Holiday Bourbon Raffle. Night at the Races is a fun-filled event featuring appetizers, drinks, silent auction and horse racing at beautiful Turfway Park Racing and Gaming. This event is typically held in March of every year. Our other event is our Holiday Bourbon Raffle which is held in December of every year.

Can I come and just check out a meeting without committing?

You can absolutely come to one of our meetings and just hang out! Once you realize how informal and fun we are, we think you’ll have a hard time leaving without joining our foundation!
